#Test mode

Test mode runs the full pipeline (persistence, webhooks, the event feed) without reaching a carrier and without needing an approved 10DLC campaign. Start here.

#Two ways in

  • An sk_test_ API key. Every request made with it is sandboxed. Create one in the console, with POST /v1/keys and "mode": "test", or with mittis login --test.
  • The magic number +15005550006. Sending from it is always a test send, even with a live key.

#What you get

  • Messages are stubbed: they are stored, move through delivery states, and fire message.status webhooks, but never reach a handset.
  • No registered campaign is required to send.
  • Webhook deliveries are real and signed, and events appear in GET /v1/events, so mittis listen works.
  • Email sent with a test key sends nothing and bills nothing. Toll-free verification submitted with a test key never reaches the carrier.

#Moving to live

Test keys cannot mint live keys. Create a sk_live_ key in the console, buy a number, complete 10DLC registration, and attach the number to the approved campaign.
